How to Access Your Financial Aid Notification
Students who submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and meet Federal and Penn State Student Financial Aid Eligibility Requirements will receive financial aid notification from our office, the Office of Student Aid. Your financial aid notification will list all of the student financial aid (loans, grants, work-study, and scholarships) for which you qualify.
Future Students (first-year, transfer, and new graduate students)
Email notifications will begin in late March for students who submit their FAFSA by March 1. You will receive financial notification if you have been offered admission to the University and we have received your 2012-13 FAFSA information. Thereafter, notifications will be sent weekly as FAFSAs are received. Be sure to periodically check your spam/junk folder.
If you completed the FAFSA and received an email notification, you can access your Student Aid Summary by following these steps:
- Log in to eLion
- Click on the "Students" link
- Enter your Penn State User ID (example: "abc1234") and password (also used to log in to the MyPennState admissions website)
- After logging in, you may be prompted to confirm your:
- Penn State ID number (Example: "987654321" This is not your SSN.)
- Gender
- Date of birth
- Last name
- Then, select "Student Aid Summary" from the menu
The Student Aid Summary Guide for New Students will help you understand your Student Aid Summary. This guide will explain the total aid vs. the Estimated Total Cost of Attendance and how to plan for paying the difference.
Current Students (returning undergraduate and graduate students)
You will receive an email message in your Penn State email account beginning in mid to late June (and continuing regularly thereafter) notifying you that your student financial aid is accessible via the Student Aid Summary on eLion. If you are returning home during the summer, remember that you can access your Penn State email account through Penn State WebMail.
If you submitted your 2012-13 FAFSA more than four weeks ago and have not received a notification, first confirm that you released your FAFSA information to Penn State by logging into your FAFSA account. Then, contact us.
