Overview
Students who submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and meet Federal and Penn State Student Financial Aid Eligibility Requirements will receive a financial aid notification from our office, the Office of Student Aid. Your financial aid notification will list all of the student financial aid (loans, grants, work-study, and scholarships) for which you qualify.
You will receive a financial aid notification if you have been offered admission to the University and we have received your 2013-14 FAFSA information.
Email notifications begin March 27 for students who submitted their FAFSA by March 1. Thereafter, emails are sent weekly. Be sure to periodically check your spam/junk folder.
If you completed the FAFSA and received an email notification, you can access your Student Aid Summary by following these steps:
- Go to eLion
- Click on the "Students" link
- Enter your Penn State User ID (example: "abc1234") and password (also used to log in to the MyPennState admissions website)
- After logging in, you may be prompted to confirm your:
- Penn State ID numberĀ (example: "987654321," this is not your SSN)
- Gender
- Date of birth
- Last name
- Select "Financial" and then select "Student Aid Summary" from the menu
The Student Aid Summary Guide for New Students will help you understand your Student Aid Summary. This guide will explain the estimated aid versus the estimated cost of attendance and how to plan for paying the difference.
Current Students (returning undergraduates and graduates)
You will receive an email message in your Penn State email account beginning mid to late June (and continuing regularly thereafter) that your financial aid is accessible via the Student Aid Summary on eLion. If you are returning home during the summer, remember that you can access your Penn State email account through Penn State WebMail.
If you submitted your 2013-14 FAFSA by the recommended filing deadline and do not receive an email by early July, confirm that Penn State's Federal School Code (003329) is listed on your FAFSA.
The Student Aid Summary Guide for Current Students will help you understand your Student Aid Summary. This guide will explain the estimated aid versus the estimated cost of attendance and how to plan for paying the difference.
